I can’t wait to leave my father’s place.

The entire evening seems to have gotten out of control. And in the end, every word he says resonates with me. I know it’s true.

I know I’ve made mistakes.

I also know there isn’t a right or wrong way to deal with it. Kian wants her no matter what I say or do.

The same way he wanted Irina and other women before her.

Women have a weakness for him, and he knows how to use it in his favor.

Kian knows that no matter how bad he is, he always gets what he wants. Baron and I are no angels, and that stirs Kian up, making him even more competitive.

Lost in thought, I make the trip back when the exit leading to her place looms in the distance. I steer the car in that direction at the last moment, taking the road to her house.

Perhaps, I want to make sure that things are okay.

Or maybe I’ll change my mind at the last minute and knock on her door, surprise her and see her again.

Chances are, it would freak her out. I’d look desperate, and that’s not the best way to win a woman.

As I move closer, I spot her car in the driveway. The living room is lit up. So is the patio. Frankie must be home.

I feel relieved.

I linger for a few more moments before making a U-turn and heading home, glancing into the rearview mirror until I can no longer see her house.

Half an hour later, I pull my ride in front of my place. No other cars sit in the driveway.

I climb out and walk into the house.

Silence greets me on the first floor.

The lights are low, the doors to the pool are wide open, a blue glow flickering outside.

I look around. The house is in order–– there’s no sign of Kian.

Smoothly, I shift toward the stairs when I hear the water sloshing behind me. I spin around, heading to the pool.

Torches gleam outside, guarding the convoluted stretch of water.

He swims below the surface for a few good moments before pulling up at the concrete edge.

He straightens and looks at me without saying a word, wringing water out of his hair.

“How come you’re home?” I ask.

He picks up a towel and runs it over his torso, not looking at me.

“How come you’re home?” he throws at me.

“Where was I supposed to be?”

“I don’t know.”

He picks up his things and walks past me before entering the house.

Something in his swagger strikes me as unusual.

Too much confidence. Blaring cockiness. Not that it’s not his thing–– he’s always been like that.

His stance conveys the same thing as he stops at the kitchen counter and scoops up his drink.

“Wherever you were until now,” he continues before lifting the glass to his lips and drinking.

“I was with Baron in San Francisco.”

“Really?”

“Mm-hmm.”

He seems amused.

“You?” I ask, not letting him off the hook.

Drink in hand, he turns to me slowly.

“I was at the club.”

“How come you’re alone?”

He flashes a devilish smile, his eyes glinting with amusement again.
